You may wonder exactly how NTG Radio came about. In all reality, it was a simple desire to share a love and admiration of women in music. It is the child of circumstance, born from a website dedicated to a handful of friends, and the ability to listen to a custom made “soundtrack” of sorts when they met online.
A little research and the first stream was established. Within a New York minute, NTG went from 24kps to 128kps broadcast, 3,500 songs to well over 10,000 and growing, from local to nationwide to rockin’ worldwide.
Lizz Randolph joined the core team and supplied the “voice” of NTG and the weekly spotlight series, “Women Who Make Us Hot”.
Stephanie’s partner, Ursula, added to mix by creating the NTG “rock goddess” Jesse, adding songs requested by listeners, as well as maintaining the library.
Stephanie supplied the base and the artistry of the website, and continues to do all the maintenance and programming, and is the “heart” of the station.
IJ, as it’s “Listener Liaison”, ensured that NTG will always be a place that the listeners have a part of determining what NTG is about. A place where friends around the world can gather and listen to women in music from every genre.
Recently NTG was joined by another cool lady, Marie Atwell. She is a very talented guitarist in her own right, and writes and co-produces “Women Who Make Us Hot” with Lizz Randolph. As well as many other behind-the-scenes things that help NTG run at its best.
Also, NTG has teamed with Annette Conlon from the rock band Eden Automatic and the host of weekly internet radio show ‘NetteRadio. From piano to punk, 'NetteRadio is dedicated to promoting Women in Music and features bands/artists/singer songwriters that include at least one woman. Many of the artists are performing members of GoGirlsMusic.com and Indiegrrl.com, and artist and listener base is GLOBAL (Scotland, New Zealand, South Africa, Australia, Germany, Holland, UK, and of course all over the US!) It is definitely the place for new stuff.
Another addition came along with a new partnership with Tomboy Entertainment. A site equally dedicated to promoting indie women in music.
And, 2005 seems to be the year for NTG to really spread it wings by sponsoring some key indie artist events. Such as WIMFest 2005 in Akron, Oh, and SheRocks 2005 in San Francisco, CA, and many more on the horizon.
So, from a “soundtrack” for friends, to a “soundtrack” for our generation, NTG is, and will continue to be, THE place for people who support women in music to sit back, relax, and be a part of the music!
